Topic 3:  Elder Abuse
Speaker: Rodney LEWIS, Author, Elder Law in Australia
Elder abuse is no longer some vague concept used by non-lawyers to describe a litany of bad human behaviour. The community is moving forward towards a concrete set of policies and lawmaking and we need to stay with it. This is a wave of reform which we should catch as a profession, not try to get out of the way.
This will be a discussion about where we are and where the reform movement is taking us as lawyers.
•    Common causes and signs of elder abuse – what will you do?
•    Responses and legal remedies – where is elder justice?
•    Summary and comment on the 2017 Australian Law Reform Commission Report: not far enough – or too far?
